In terms of SteamWorld Dig 2 sales, the other platforms so far-Steam and PS4/Vita-don’t come close. “The Switch is the hip new system, and that’s very important. I guess you could call us ‘Nintendo’s first Nindie experiment.'”Īs for SteamWorld Dig 2, Siegurgeirsson said putting it on Switch was “a no-brainer.” The game’s launch was significantly better than the first title, but sales on Nintendo’s console are significantly higher than other platforms. “Nobody had heard of us when we released SteamWorld Dig on 3DS in August 2013, and Nintendo decided to bet on the game in a Nintendo Direct at the time. There’s more to the game than just the main story mode, and going off the beaten track to discover side quests, relics and other secrets is very rewarding. We’d literally be nowhere today without that support, because we would’ve gone surefire bust-I had borrowed so much cash for us to complete SteamWorld Dig that any smaller initial sales volumes would’ve rendered us extinct.” In summary, SteamWorld Dig 2 is a stellar addition to the Switch, and it’s a great throwback to the classic 2D platformers and side-scrollers of yesteryear.

“They gave the game a full minute of prime-time coverage just as the game was released. The game features a side character from the original, Dorothy, as the main character looking for the first games protagonist. Siegurgeirsson spoke about how having it featured in a Nintendo Direct a few years ago boosted visibility: SteamWorld Dig 2 is the sequel to the 2013/2014 3DS/Wii U game SteamWorld Dig, released on the Nintendo Switch by Image & Form. One reason that SteamWorld Dig did so well is Nintendo’s promotion of the game. While speaking with the site, Siegurgeirsson revealed that the first game has sold over one million copies collectively. Only two issues held me back a bit (I wanted to swing my pickaxe in the air and the jetpack is tricky through spiky areas).Kotaku caught up with Image & Form CEO Brjann Siegurgeirsson for a look back on the original SteamWorld Dig as well as its sequel. I was impressed by how smooth the controls felt. The graphics are pleasing and the gameplay is smooth. The game feels very well paced with goodies and upgrades coming steadily, but not easily (played on Normal mode). I'm not sure if I would play through it again, but I will likely pick up after the last save and see if I can complete all of the caves. The only real complaint would be that it is too short of a game, but for the price it is worth the ~10 hours of gameplay. What an awesome game! I played through and enjoyed almost all of it (there were a few challenging parts that I was just not prepared for). I admit that the game trailer wasn't all that exciting.but decided to give it a try. It stars Dorothy, a character that previously appeared as an NPC, exploring the mines near the town of El Machino. It is a sequel to SteamWorld Dig, and marks the return of that games Metroidvania-style gameplay. I thought I would read some of the reviews from the first game and see what this new one was all about. Developer Image & Form has managed to create a handful of great games under the name of SteamWorld, so the expectations for SteamWorld Dig 2 were high for an indie developer. SteamWorld Dig 2 is a video game in the SteamWorld series, developed and published by Image & Form, for Nintendo Switch. After getting the Nintendo Switch I have been reading about upcoming games and came across Steamworld Dig 2. I have not played the first Steamworld Dig, having assumed it was just another indie platformer that would sit in my collection unfinished.
